This section will contain the reports of seminars and events of general interest to primary teachers.
Enabling Research into Primary Design & Technology
Seminar report with recommendations is now available.
The seminar took place in January and was supported by the Nuffield Foundation and the Design & Technology Association. Three keynote presentations complimented by lively discussion between over 20 delegates has led to 8 recommendations and action points for discussion. A particularly important recommendation and action point concerns the importance of engaging primary head teachers in supporting and developing the subject. If your head teacher is supportive of design & technology in the curriculum then do let the Project know how this came about.

Combining QCA units 3D and 4B
Here is a further report in the series commissioned by Ian Williams at QCA. This one is not directly linked to a Nuffield unit but may be of interest to primary D&T teachers. The aim was to link the D&T Unit 3D:Photograph Frames with the Art and Design unit 4B:Take a Seat.
The attached report gives you the outcome of this interesting matching.

Nuffield D&T adapts QCA Food Technology Unit
We were delighted when Ian Williams, the D&T Subject Officer at QCA, asked Nuffield Design & Technology to develop an adaptation of D&T Unit 1C Eat more fruit and vegetables.
The unit can be easily adapted by treating it along the lines of the Nuffield primary solutions unit "Which fruits would be good in your salad?"
Here you can download the report of how the unit went down with the pupils.
